Imphal, December 10 2008:
TWO EMPLOYEES of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences have been kidnapped by the KCP (Ibungo Ngangom), according to a complaint lodged with the police.
They were identified as Ng Robindro, AE from Khurai Sajor Leikai in Imphal East district and Y Surjeet, SO of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai.
Both of them were abducted from the complex yesterday evening, but the RIMS authority learnt of it only today, reports said.
A ransom of Rs 3 crore has been demanded with the deadline on Friday.
An emergency meeting was held by the employees of RIMS.
The meeting resolved that it was not possible to pay the ransom.
The meeting asked the kidnappers to release both engineers by 6 pm tomorrow failing which agitations will be launched.
The reports further said that while the meeting was going on today, one of the two engineers who are in the custody of the kidnappers phoned a staff employee to request not to stop normal works of the RIMS hospital and also not to stage sit-in-protests etc.
If the issue gets magnified by organising sit-in-protest and suspend normal works of the hospital, their lives would be exposed to more danger, he had informed.
On the other hand, the kidnappers had threatened the RIMS authority that if ransom is not paid by Friday both of them will be killed.
In the meantime, Manipur Police have taken up steps to rescue the two engineers.
Police have intensified checking and frisking in different parts of the four valley districts.
