ONLY TWO candidates have filed nominations for the by-election of Moirang Assembly Constituency.
The two candidates are Mairenbam Prithibiraj of Indian National Congress and Hemam Bira of Manipur People's Party.
With filing of nominations by only two candidates so far, it looks like there is going to be a straight fight between the two.
Moirang AC in Bishnupur district was lying vacant after the sitting congress MLA Mairenbam Munindro, expired in October this year.
Meanwhile, female electorates outnumbered the males in the forthcoming by-election of Moirang assembly constituency in Manipur's Bishnupur district which is scheduled to be held on December 27 next.
Out of total 32,369, there are 17,083 female electorates and 15,286 electorates in Moirang AC.
According to official sources available here, these electorates would excersie their franchise rights at 37 polling booths which were identified as 'sensitive booths' as there's no hyper or normal polling booths this time.
For smooth conduct of the polling at these sensitive polling booths,heavy security cover has been made.
Though the government announced not to utilize the armed police commandoes in the forthcoming polling day ,a total of 300 security men and 200 polling personnel would be used.
Besides various types of vehicles numbering around 60 would also be utilized for the transportation of these polling personnel and security men.
The counting of the votes would be held on December 30 next.
