International Conference on LEP begins

A two-day International Conference on "Northeast India in India's Look East Policy" jointly organized by Manipur University and Association of Asia Scholars commenced from today at the Committee Room of Manipur University, Canchipur here today.
The inaugural function was attended by President of Institute of Future Studies for Development in Thailand Prof Kriengsak Chareonwongsak, former Director General of Indian Council of World Affairs Ambassador Sudhir T Devare, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University Prof HNK Sarma, Secretary General of Association of Asia Scholars Reena Marwah, Dean of School of Sciences, Manipur University Prof E Bijoykumar and Convenor of International Conference Dr Rajen Singh Laishram as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Kriengsak Chareonwongsak stressed on the need to have literal development and cooperation among India, Myanmar and Thailand in the light of India's Look East Policy.
He said that a trilateral highway project aiming at connecting India, Myanmar and Thailand through Moreh town is targeted to complete by 2016.Such mega projects would definitely help to build better economic ties among the three countries.
The Thai investors are now eyeing on northeastern states of India for good business prospects, Prof Kriengsak noted.
Prof HNK Sarma said that the Southeast Asian countries must join hands to curb child trafficking and prostitution before the completion of the ambitious trilateral highway project.
