Imphal, July 17 2012:
In view of the drought like condition prevailing in the state, the state Government has decided to make available Urea at the rate of Rs 278.80 per bag of 50 kgs by providing additional transport subsidy.
The decision was taken during a meeting the State Cabinet today.
The meeting decided to provide transport cum storage subsidy on Urea to farmers amounting to Rs 4.27 crores in the current year in view of low rainfall and impending drought like conditions.
Accordingly, the fertilizer would be made available to the distressed farmers across the state at the rate of Rs 278.80 per bag of 50 kgs during the Kharif season.
The District Agriculture Officials would oversee the distribution of fertilizers in their respective districts to ensure sale of Urea at the notified prace.
It is said that the Government is closely monitoring the rainfall pattern and status in the state ad will take further actions as necessary to support the farming community.
Today's Cabinet meeting has also approved special financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the five Olympic qualifiers of the state, namely Mary Kom (Boxing), L Debendro (Boxing) L Bombayla Devi (Archery), Ng Soniya (Weightlifting) and Kh Kothajit Singh (Hockey) .
