Hearing of alleged fake encounter case begins

The charge hearing against 6 police commandos in connection with the alleged custodial death of Th Ranjit on May 8, 2011, began before the Court of Session Judge, Imphal East, today.
The police commando, Sub Inspector Rk Brojen, Head Constable Bharmacharimayum Usharanjan, Constable Takhellambam Dhake, Constable Alimuddin Khan, Constable Sapam Premchand and Constable Leishangthem Biriit, who were charged sheeted by CBI/SIT in connection with the case, appeared before the Court for the charge hearing along with their respective counsels.
During the hearing today, the Court heard the submission of Special PP, CBI, and fixed November 28 for further hearing.
It may be mentioned that on July 30, as per the directive given by the Supreme Court of India to submit necessary charge sheets, final report and status report before the Court concerned in connection with the alleged fake encounter/ extrajudicial killing cases of Manipur, CBI had submitted the said charge sheet against 6 police personnel before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East.
Soon after, the involved police personnel surrendered before the Court for facing the trial and a case was put up from the Chief Judicial Magistrate to Session Judge Imphal East and the relevant papers for the trial were handed over to the respective counsels of the charge sheeted police personnel on August 21.The charge sheets submitted by the CBI/ SIT alleged that the police team led by Sub Inspector RK Brojen, arrested Th Ranjit of Itham Nungoi from his residence for being a member of PREPAK on May 8, 2011, at around 7.10 am.
The victim was taken to a hospital after he complained that he was not feeling well and he died on the same day (at around 9.45 am).
He was declared brought death, the charge sheet alleged.
