Imphal, October 05 2013 :
A two-day workshop on sensitization of nurses on breast feeding was held at RIMS.
Inaugurating the workshop, RIMS Director Prof S.Sekharjit said that it was first of its kind, but this programme shall continue in the larger interest of the people.
Around 30 nurses were trained during the workshop.
In future workshops, other nurses will also be given training, he added.
The objective of the workshop was to sensitize the nurses of the hospital so that they could give advices and basic techniques to the young mothers on breast feeding.
The workshop was sponsored by RIMS and organised by the departments of Community Medicine and Obs & Gynae.
Prof P.Romola, who was the organising secretary of the workshop, said that the response from the nurses was impressive.
She also underlined the role of the nurses on educating the young mothers on the usefulness and importance of breast feeding to the babies.
In the modern society where most of the young mothers are working, women tend to bottle feed the babies.
There is a need to create awareness among the young mothers.
A large number of faculties, nurses and officials were present in the inaugural function.
