Farmers' training

A one-day farmers' training on 'drip irrigation' organised by office of the Deputy Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Kangpokpi was held today at the Training Hall of Directorate of H&SC, Sanjenthong with H&SC's Additional Director K Kipgen, Executive Engineer K Lokeshore Singh and Deputy Director kh Lokendra Singh gracing the inauguration programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The training programme was held under the Minstry of Agriculture's National Mission on Micro Irrigation (NMMI) 2013-14 .
Exuding confidence that the training programme would provide vital information to the farmers about purposeful and economical usage of water, Additional director K Kipgen also urged the training programme participants to further disseminate to their colleagues at their respective areas on how to judiciously use water for agriculture activities.
Explaning that under drip irrigation method tiny holes are made in the water pipe(s) to water the plants in smaller drops, the chief guest stated that such a system not only ensures economical use of water but also prevents excessive soaking of the soil or plants.
in his brief address, Deputy director Lokendra pointing out that with problems related to scarcity of water inevitable in the near future due to rampant deforestation agricultural practices need to be based on technological advancement and more importantly economical usage of water available at the moment.
As resource persons subject experts presented detail accounts on drip irrigation to about 100 farmers who were present at the occasion.
