Imphal, October 05 2013 :
"The Government has been making effort to prevent use of intoxicants in this part of the country by making it a dry State, and is trying to establish an Act which will ban tobacco products.
This cannot be achieved without people's support" .
This was said by Education Minister, Moirangthem Okendro while speaking as chief guest in Centenary observation of academic awareness program on prevention of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, which was organised by All Manipur Anti Drug Association (AMADA) at Comet School, Changangei Uchekon, Imphal West today.
Although the Government declared it a dry State, many people buy and consume foreign liquors brought here by sellers including paramilitary force.
This has negative impact in the State economy and life (liquor related health hazard, crime and issues) of the people, Okendro observed and added that the CSOs should chuck out intoxicant sellers from the society.
The occasion was presided over by M Padmini Leima, President AMADA Mayai Loishang and attended by Kh Ibocha, Principal Comet School as guest of honour.
During the program, Dr S Dilip, Lecturer LMS Law College spoke on the topic 'Illicit drug trafficking', RK Ibungosana, SP NCB RU on 'Drug abuse prone to young students and its remedy', and Dr H Angomcha, Psychiatric District Hospital Bishnupur on 'Effect of psychotropic drug in the body' .
