Stage set for 3rd World Zomi convention

The Zomis or Zo people settling in various parts of the globe have geared up to converse at the 3rd World Zomi Convention at Lamka in Manipur's southern district of Churachandpur.
The three-day convention from October 25-27 will be held under the theme "Marching on�" .
The convention would also be also be attended by Union minister for Surface and Transport Oscar Fernandes; Joint Secretary, North East in-charge of Union Ministry of Home Affairs Shambu Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh and his Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and other bureaucrats of Zo descendants, informed the organizing committee's convenor Dr R Sanga, while interacting with the media at the Zomi Council office, Nehru Marg in Churachandpur on Saturday.
The first Zomi Convention took place at Champhai in Mizoram on May 19-21 in the year 1988 and later at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl on June 17-18 of 1991, Dr Sanga said.
Various troupes from different tribes will showcase different cultural dances and in addition to it, another item of cultural exchange programme will also be organised during the convention.
Troupes from Meitei Thang-Ta dance, Meitei cultural dance, Muslim cultural dance and Naga cultural dance will also be performed.
Presidents of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), United Naga Council (UNC) and ZOROs will also address the convention.
A fellowship under the theme "Be a Blessed Nation" will be held during the night time of the convention at selected churches and another interesting feature of the convention will be the singing of a "Halleluijah" chorus in unison by a conglomerate of selected choir singers.
A seminar on various topics will also be held as part of the convention and it would be conducted by scholars and intellectuals at YPA Hall, Hiangtam Lamka.
During the convention, a traditional heritage house will be set up and inside it, different costumes, clothes and other wearings besides traditional tools and implements used by the 'Zo' people will be kept and displayed.
