Various political parties in Mizoram are attacking the Congress party even as the state assembly elections will be held on December 4 .
The main opposition party Mizo National Front (MNF), Mizoram Peoples Conference (MPC), ZNP and others are saying that the Congress party pilot project New Land Use Policy (NLUP) will not help the Lal Thanhawla led Congress government to come back.
The MNF is trying its best to whip up the Mizo nationalism while other parties are hurling volley after volley of allegations against the Congress government as corrupt.
Dr.Kenneth Chawngliana, the Mizoram Peoples Conference (MPC) Executive General Secretary said, " The mass distribution of NLUP fund by the ruling Congress Government with a motive to woo the support of public to get the latter's vote in the forth coming assembly elections will not help the Congress government in retaining power in the state" .
Dr.Kenneth told media persons that during 1989 - 1998, when the Congress party formed the ministry, it distributed NLUP assistance fund of Rs.20,000 - Rs.50,000 each to 78,479 families.
"However, the distribution of NLUP did not save the Congress government as it had suffered a defeat in 1998 assembly elections whereby it managed to secure only 6 seats in the state assembly and Lal Thanhawla, despite his contest in two constituencies, failed to make a room in the assembly.
Purportedly, in the upcoming assembly elections the ruling Congress government will face the same fate as it was in 1998 general elections", the MPC leader predicted.
According to Dr.Kenneth, in the present term, the Congress government has been trying its earnest effort to reach NLUP assistance to more than 1,20,000 households since 2009."As huge amount of the distributed NLUP fund was diverted from the State budget, this paralyzed developmental work in the state," Dr.further alleged, adding, "While all the sum available from plan is to be utilized in an effective way and for developmental work, the Congress government rampantly distributed NLUP fund from state budget for vote." He went on to said that since the NLUP funds belong to government, the benefit must be even enjoyed by members of MNF, MPC, ZNP and BJP without discrimination.
Kenneth then said that the Congress government has distributed around Rs.2,800 core in its current term against the total sum of Rs 151 crore distributed during 1989 - 1998.The total sum of Rs.2,800 crore according to Dr.Kenneth is adequately sufficient to build two power dams in the state.
The Congress party and its ministry has failed to give priority to developmental work for the progress of the state, he rued.
