Time to give tickets to women: Phungzathang

Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing has categorically stated that it is time for the Congress party to encourage aspiring women candidates by giving tickets to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Inner or Outer Parliamentary Constituency as part of the efforts being made by All India Congress Committee (AICC) to empower women in the society.
The Minister was made the observation while speaking during a workshop cum mass enrolment organised by Churachandpur Block Congress Committee at Mary Kom Boxing Arena located at New Lamka in Churachandpur district headquarters today.
Phungzathang said AICC has introduced various schemes for empowering women, and as part of this measure, efforts are being made for keeping seats reserved for women in the State Assemblies and the Parliament.
So, the Congress party in the State also needs to follow suit by giving tickets to aspiring women candidates to contest in the election and participate in the decision making process.
Speaking on the occasion, President of Churachandpur District Mahila Congress Committee Lulun Tonsing said it is time for the women to support women for impressive participation of their own kinswomen in the decision making process of the State.
Only then, gender inequality in the society could be reduced, she added.
Significantly, Lulun Tonsing, who is the daughter of Minister Phungzathang, is one of the aspiring candidates who have applied for the party ticket to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha election for the seat of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
President of Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress M Ranisana, ADC Churachandpur Member Kasuanlun and President of Churachandpur Block Congress Committee T Chongbiak were also among other dignitaries who were present and spoke on the occasion.
