Seminar on LEP begins

Highlighting the importance of the Look East Policy among the hill people of the state, Manga Vaiphei, MLA and Chairman, MTDC, Manipur said that the hill people should be aware of the real meaning and functions of the policy so that development can be brought about faster pace to the most backward sections of the state.
Manga Vaiphei, who was speaking as the chief guest at the opening day of the two-day seminar on India's Look East Policy and socio economic security of hill people mentioned that since many projects such as introduction of railways and upgradation of national highways are being taken up by the Indian Trade Union in the hill sectors, people of the hills need to realize why such developmental works are being initiated in the region and try to help in much possible ways.
Just like Myanmar is rich in production of natural gas, India too is a giant producer of electrical mechanics.
All import and export works of the country are under the control of the Indian Trade Union, he added.
He also mentioned that in the earlier visit of the state's Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh along with some cabinet ministers to Myanmar on May 1, 2013, the Chief Minister of the state had told the chief minister of Myanmar that he would build a hospital in Sagaing, Myanmar to nourish India-Myanmar trade relations.
The chief guest also mentioned that the Chief Minister had also declared of ongoing talks regarding the import of timber into the state from Myanmar.
The two-day seminar which began today is organized by the Rani Gaidinliu Welfare Society at Tribal Research Institute Conference Hall, near Adimjati, Imphal and is sponsored by Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong.
MLA Janghemlung Panmei and Joint Director TRI, Chingmeirong, Z.Solomon were the functional guest of honour and president respectively.
Assistant Professor, Dr.Thangjamang Lhouvum, Manipur Institute of Management Studies, MU, Assistant Professor, Dr.Thathang Vaiphei, Centre for study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, MU and Assistant Professor Dr..CMatthew Kamei, Department of History, MU were present as the resource persons of the function.
