Ningol Chakkouba festive fair begins

The Ningol Chakkouba Festive Fair, 2013 for Imphal West district has begun from today under the auspices of District handlooms and Textiles, Government of Manipur at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound here.
In all, 82 stalls belonging to Imphal West Handloom Clusters are taking part in the festive fair, displaying a wide range of handloom products.
The inaugural function of the festive fair was attended by Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries), Government of Manipur O Nabakishore Singh as Chief Guest; Additional Director of Commerce and Industries V Tualthang as Functional President and M Rajen (P/M), District Handlooms and Textiles, Imphal West as Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, O Nabakishore pointed out that for the promotion of handloom products, fairs are being organised at the district, State, National and international level.
Moreover, the Central Government has been trying its level best to uplift the living condition of to handloom weavers.
But marketing of these handloom products continue to remain a major challenge.

Informing that the handloom products on display in the fair would be showcased at a fair to be held in Myanmar from January 17 to 19, 2014, the Principal Secretary also called on the participants for making use of the opportunities for expanding their market base.
Delivering his Presidential address, V Tualthang said that like every year, Handloom weavers and cluster groups from Manipur would be taking part in the fair to be held at New Delhi from November 14.So, efforts should be made for improving the quality as well as the quantity of the products to demand the growing demand.
He also advised the participating weavers and cluster groups in the Ningol Chakkouba festive fair to make note of the types of products which are in great demand, so that they can pay attention to increasing the production of such products.
M Rajen observed that Ningol Chakkouba festive fair is rare opportunity provided to the handloom weavers for not only to display their own designs but also to understand the market trend.
The Ningol Chakkouba festive fair being an event organised in connection with Ningol Chakkouba festival, the weavers should try to understand what the Ningols want.
