Imphal, March 23 2014:
MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Gaikhangam on Sunday said the Congress would sweep the the upcoming Parliamentary election in the State, and dubbed all other parties as 'desperate' organisations.
Participating in an election rally organised by Patsoi Block Congress Committee at Taobungkhok in Imphal West district today, Gaikhangam asserted that Congress never creates problem within its own organisation since it is a well-disciplined political party and dubbed all the other parties in the State as desperate organisations that lack restraint and integrity.
He said that frustrated political parties in the State are now ceaselessly making a lot of noise and freely censuring Congress without a break every time they utter words while campaigning for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls for the Inner and Outer Constituencies in the State.
Such acts of criticism against Congress have indeed helped the party to further strengthen its position to retain the two seats, Gaikhangam maintained.
The people still have faith on Congress party, the MPCC chief said, but added that the election meeting was held to share productive opinion and suggestions between the party and the people in the run up to the 16th Lok Sabha polls.
"We are deliberating on the comeback of UPA Government at the Centre after the national election," he said.
Gaikhangam went on to day that the Congress does not believe in disapproval of fellow parties in the State even though some of them have failed to elect even a single candidate in the last State Assembly election.
Many parties had faced complete routing in the last State Assembly election, Gaikhangam added without naming a single party.
Apparently referring to the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Modi is planning to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from more than two constituencies because he does not trust himself.
Sitting MP and Congress candidate for the Inner Parliamentary Constituency Dr T Meinya, who was also present at the meeting, reassured that the territorial integrity of Manipur will always remain intact.
Meinya sought support of the people to enable coming of UPA-III at the Centre after the general election.
Patsoi Assembly Constituency MLA and Social Welfare minister AK Mirabai also spoke at the meeting.
