Imphal, March 23 2014:
Though the first match of the 2nd LYSSU Junior Boys' Invitation Soccer Tournament ended on an anti-climax as AYLC-B Arapti failed to turn up and MC Awang Leikai earned a walk over, the second match of the day, between LYDU Lilong and KMCFC, Kyamgei was an exciting fare, a goal feast for the spectators who had turned out to watch
the matches.
LYDU, Lilong were definitely the better team, displaying better skills and better team play to carve a convincing 4 goals to nil victory, the goal score did not really reflect the competitive nature in which the match was played.
The team from Lilong went ahead as early as the 16th minute of the match when L Malemnganba scored a cheeky goal, taking advantage of a defensive lapse.
Stung by the early goal, the Kyamgei boys put more men in the attack, but in the process left gaping holes in their defence line up which the LYDU boys took full advantage of.
With boys from Kyamgei going all out, LYDU launched a swift counter attack from down the flank catching the defence line of KMCFC on the wrong foot.
With the winger of LYDU taking the ball far into the flank and letting go a curling shot on top of the penalty box of LYDU, H Ibungo managed to shrug off his marker and rose to the occasion to unleash a powerful shot that disturbed the net in the far end.
The second goal however did not dampen the spirit of KMCFC, Kyamgei as they resorted to a free and flowing style and managed to make inroads into the territory of LYDU on a couple of occasions.
However the LYDU defence stood its ground and did not allow the marauding forwards of KMCFC any good look at the goal.
The third goal also came against the run of play and H Ibungo was at
it again.
Receiving a defence splitting pass at the midfield, he managed to outwit a couple of defenders, took the ball into the penalty area of KMCFC and made no mistake in finding the target in the 38th minute to literally take the match away from the reach of the rival team.
W Bhimojit finished the rout when he netted in the 51st minute.
