Stabbed to death

Imphal, July 03 2020:
A 38 year old man succumbed to injuries after another man allegedly stabbed him with a knife at Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district at around 10.20 this morning.
The deceased person has been identified as Thokchom Umachandra Singh (38) s/o Th Tomboi of Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai while the accused has been identified as Nongthombam Haridas Singh (58) alias Rambo s/o of N Roton of Lairikyengbam Leikai, Imphal East.
Locals informed that Umachandra was found lying in a pool of blood at Pukhrambam Leirak, Laipham Khunou (adjacent to Punjab and Sindh Bank) after the deceased and the accused were seen fighting near the spot.
They added that Umachandra succumbed to injuries on the way to JNIMS Hospital.
The locals also said that were two injury marks on Umachandra's chest (near the heart) .
Lamphel Police picked up the accused after registering a case in connection with the incident while the dead body has been deposited at RIMS mortuary.
Meanwhile, locals of Laipham Khunou held a meeting and formed a JAC in the afternoon.
Three resolutions, including compensating the victim's family by the accused in addition to bearing the expenditures for the 'shradha' and 'ashti' ceremonies, awarding life imprisonment to the accused and not allowing the accused to enter Laipham Khunou area have also been adopted during the meeting.
The meeting further resolved not to claim the body of Umachandra until the JAC's demands are fulfilled.
The resolutions were also submitted in the form of a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Imphal West SP this evening.
