Imphal, July 03 2020:
The COVID Care Centre opened at Kasom Khullen Primary Health Centre has successfully treated five COVID-19 patients.
Even though Kamjong district, being a newly created district, is plagued with acute shortage of different infrastructure including health care facilities, Kasom Khullen CCC and Kamjong CCC were opened with a commitment to battle the COVID-19 pandemic sometime back under the aegis of Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo.
Five people including a one year old boy who were undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at Kasom Khullen CCC have fully recovered.
While four of them came back from Chennai, the other returned from Gurgaon.
The returnees from Chennai underwent COVID-19 treatment at the Kasom Khullen CCC from June 24 whereas the one who returned from Gurgaon started treatment three days earlier from June 21.Samples of all the five individuals were re-tested for COVID-19 on July 1 and they were found negative.
Subsequently, they were discharged from the COVID Care Centre.
Talking to The Sangai Express, MLA K Leishiyo remarked that the successful treatment of five COVID-19 patients at Kasom Khullen CCC has shown that even a Primary Health Centre which lacks modern medical equipment can cure COVID-19 if one works with commitment and dedication.
The MLA said that the five COVID-19 patients could be cured as the doctors and their staff worked overtime in addition to taking up all possible safety measures.
He then conveyed gratitude to Dr Mosil Khulak and Dr Vareso Tuithung.
Even though the facilities/equipment available at the PHC are rather disappointing, the diligence of doctors gives hope to all the people.
To fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, 21 quarantine centres were opened at different places of Kamjong district.
These 12 quarantine centres have total accommodation capacity of 1100 people.
Further, two COVID care centres were opened at Kasom Khullen and Kamjong, Leishiyo said.
There is no specialist doctor in any of the PHCs opened in Kamjong district.
These PHCs do not have the required strength of nursing staff.
As such, many people opined that opening COVID Care Centres at such PHCs would not serve any purpose, he conveyed.
Nonetheless, in view of the people's urgent requirement, Kasom Khullen CCC and Kamjong CCC were opened earlier before Phungyar CC was opened yesterday, said the MLA.
After the Phungyar CCC was opened yesterday, village chiefs made strong demands to provide ambulances, send required number of doctors and nurses and open COVID-19 testing laboratory at Kasom Khullen.
Saying that all these demands are quite legitimate, Leishiyo said that he would take these demands to the State Government.
