CCpur, July 03 2020:
The joint student bodies of Churachandpur have condemned the alleged attempt to kidnap a boy by two men suspected to be child traffickers at about 5 pm yesterday.
Thirteen years old boy identified as Eric (13), S/o Stephan Vanlalrum of Bridge street, Rengkai, was reportedly whisked into a light grey van near his residence and tied-up before he was taken towards Khuga dam area, said the student bodies citing the boy's statement.
It was when the men made a stop to relieve them that the boy said he managed to escape and alert the local villagers of Thingkhangphai.
The boy was eventually taken to his home by the people whom he approached after his escape.
On learning about the incident, local police also took the boy's statement.
Terming the alleged kidnap attempt of the minor boy as a ghastly act, the joint student bodies of Churachandpur comprising of ZSF GHQ, KSO CCP, HSA Jt Hq, MZP Manipur in their emergency meeting held today raised some questions on the issue and appealed to the authority concerned to immediately arrest the kidnappers.
A statement issued by the student bodies noted a reported involvement of a non-local in the case.
It is truly monstrous that a non-local could be involved in the kidnapping of a child, it added.
The student bodies agreed to hold another round of meeting soon, solely to deliberate upon the issue of non-locals.
The joint student bodies also questioned how a child bound with a rope could be carried in a vehicle at a time when movement was strictly monitored due to the pandemic.
The HSA-CCpur JHQ has, meanwhile, lauded the heroic action of Eric in escaping from the clutches of kidnappers, and also expressed its gratitude to the MPC and others who helped him reach home safe and sound.
Meanwhile, the district police learnt to have apprehended two suspects today.
The two non-local travelling in a light grey van with supplies for shops stock up on the rear-side of the vehicle were apprehended on suspicion with their identities or actual involvement still not made known till the time of filing this report.
The two suspects and their van have, however, made it to various social media groups that identified them as the kidnappers.
A police official when contacted said, the duo are suspects and it will take some time to confirm if they are involved or not.
The two non-local men along with their van were apprehended in the afternoon near Damkam Bazar, New Lamka.
