Imphal, July 26, 2012:
Attributing the State's tardy pace of development to lack of work culture among the people, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai has called upon all to groom a healthy work culture.
The Minister was speaking to ICDS functionaries including Supervisors, Statistical Assistants and ACD POs at an interaction session organised by Social Welfare Department at Kangla Hall today.
Noting that the ICDS functionaries have been making field inspection to check how children are being taken care of and how welfare schemes for pregnant women are being implemented at the grassroots level, Mirabai said that the session was specifically organised to understand the difficulties and problems faced by the functionaries during their field visits.
Highlighting the importance of cooperation in executing any work, Mirabai called upon gathering not to be too choosy about jobs but work with dedication whatever the job is.
One need to give up the habit of sharing salaries by engaging a second person to do his/her duty.
All concerned need to make the ICDS Project a grand success, the Social Welfare Minister informed that the Government of India has selected two best Anganwadi workers from Bishnupur and Imphal East II for cash reward of Rs 25,000 each.
Capitalising on the opportunity provided by the interaction session, the ICDS functionaries asked the Minister when would they get their salaries which have not been given for the past nine months.
They also stated that they would not be able to pay back borrowed money if the due salaries are paid in piecemeal manner.
In the absence of office buildings, Supervisors have been running their office in rented rooms and paying rents from their pockets.
They appealed to the Minister to plug the pay anomaly between the Supervisors and Statistical Assistants and also to provide training facility for new Supervisors.
They demanded amendment of recruitment rules and ACD POs eligible for promotion.
Responding to the queries, Social Welfare Director Seityabati said that an amount of Rs 18.94 crores has been sanctioned to pay salaries of ICDS functionaries for three months.
She clarified that there was no question of misuse of fund.
Social Welfare Special, Secretary Arun Kumar Shah was also present at the session.
