UNC new team reaffirm, 'Alternative Arrangement'

Senapati, September 25 2011: The United Naga Council (UNC), after months of hectic dillydallying, has elected Lohrii Adani as the new President along with five other council members, and reaffirmed its commitment to pursue the demand for "Alternative Arrangement" .

On Saturday, the UNC new team led by Lohrii Adani as President and five others including Gaidon Kamei (General Secretary), S.Milan (Information & Publicity Secretary), NG.

Danee (Finance Secretary), K.Marygold (Social & Cultural Secretary) and Kapani Krichena (Treasurer) has been handed charge on Saturday evening.

The UNC Assembly Affairs also has a new team with Timothy P as Speaker and N.Kono as Deputy Speaker respectively.

The new team for the tenure 2011-2014 was administered oath of office by the outgoing Assembly Affairs speaker S.Milan in the presence of representatives from various Naga civil societies.

In pursuance with the "Declaration of the Naga Peoples' Convention" of July 1, 2010 at Tahamzam, the new UNC team also reaffirmed commitment on the issue of alternative arrangement yesterday.

The new UNC members and members of Committee for Alternative Arrangement readopted a resolution, which stated: "On this day, the 24th September, 2011 the Naga people in Manipur recommit ourselves to uphold and reaffirm the Declaration of the Naga Peoples' Convention held on 1st July, 2010 at Tahamzam.

Further, the resolution announced: "It is also resolved that the movement for securing alternative arrangement for the Nagas will be intensified in all manners deemed fit under the aegis of the United Naga Council" .

The UNC meeting was attended by representatives of various frontal Naga bodies including tribal Hohos, women union, ANSAM, NPMHR among others at Tahamzam .

The induction of a new team has given rest to wild speculation on the internal affairs of the apex Naga body, as the executive council was dissolved for a couple of months.

Earlier, the UNC scheduled election was deferred twice for reason best known to them.
