Imphal, September 25 2011:
The option to ship in petroleum products through Kohima-Jessami road has found to be not very pragmatic as the road is too narrow for two heavy trucks to pass each other.
Route verification committee comprising officials of IOC, PWD and BRO conducted field assessment of the road on September 21 and 22 .
Besides being a single lane highway, the Kohima-Jessami road was found to be too narrow for two heavy trucks to pass each other.
This was discovered by the route verification team.
The team found that it not would be possible for any convoy of loaded trucks coming from Kohima side to pass any four-wheeler coming from the opposite direction.
In case, any truck breaks down enroute to Imphal on Kohima-Jessami road, all other vehicles travelling behind it would be stranded.
The team also observed that several armed groups were operating along the route implying that sufficient strength of security personnel would be needed in transporting goods along the route, informed a reliable source.
