Imphal, September 25 2011:
North Imphal Sporting Association (NISA) settled for a 1-1 draw with MPSC, the result securing the 6th Manipur State League football title for the Thangmeiband side with an unassailable 20 points at the end of eighth round in the 10-team competition.
Needing only a draw today to regain the title, the three times former champion conceded a goal late in the first half when N Deshkumar netted the police goal four minutes from the half time whistle at Khuman Lampak Main stadium.
The police side could have opened the score early in the match but Henry KK missed a sitter shooting inches over the crosspiece from an M Somochandra cross.
While a loss against MPSC would have given a glimmer of hope to its closest rival AIM, Khabam to take a shot at the title, M Bijen Singh ensured there was no such hiccup for NISA as he ruffled the police net in the 68th minute after a T Ajitkumar attempt deflected from the rival custodian and landed near an unmarked Bijen.
The tie put MPSC in third place on 12 points .
