Civil bodies unite to uproot drugs

The All Manipur Anti Drug Association (AMADA) and Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Lup Heirangoithong Naoriya Pakhanglakpa today in an awareness programme on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Prevention pledged to join hands and put in efforts to uproot drugs and intoxicants from the soil.
The awareness programme was held at the Heirangoithong Voley Ground.
The two bodies resolved to ban selling and abusing drugs and intoxicants in and around Heirangoithong with immediate effect.
They also agreed to go hand in hand in the drive against drugs and intoxicants and face any obstacle against the drive in the area.
Further they also resolved to organize various awareness programmes on the effect of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary General, AMADA Ph Phony said that youths of the state are becoming victims of drugs and intoxicants day by day.
Reports of heinous crimes resulted out of drug abusing has become more like a daily occurrence in the state.
Even women and young girls have also become victim of such drugs.
It is high time for the people of the state to stand united against the drugs and intoxicants which might destroy the society one day if the situation goes on, he added.
Dr Priyokumar, medical officer of 30 AR who attended the function as resource person said that there are two types of drinker, one is social drinker while the other is alcohol addict.
Social drinkers drink alcohol only in social occasion or gathering that too in little amount.
There is nothing serious health problems in such drinker.
On the other hand, alcohol addicts drink alcohol day and night.
They find it hard to stay a single moment without alcohol.
Such addicts need to be treated in a rehabilitation centre.
Social worker Th Iboyaima and President AMADA Head Office M Padmini graced the function as Chief Guest and president respectively.
Advocate Ng Tejkumar also attended the function as resource person.
