Workshop imparts training

With an aim to inculcate the elements of culture into the minds of youngsters, North Imphal Cultural Organisation (NICO) is currently running a two-month training cum workshop at its office premises at Koirengei since September 4 last.
"16 boys and 22 girls are being trained on Thang-Ta, folk-song and Manipuri dance in the workshop", said workshop director Heisnam Okendro.
He added that folk-song is being taught by renowned folk singer Godse Meetei and Laitonjam Sunil while training on Thang-Ta is being imparted by Takhellambam Dibanjit and dance by Somorjit.
Class XI student Neerupama, who is a participant said, "It is very encouraging to conduct such a workshop with an aim to promote culture of Manipur" .
Another participant and Class X student, Mongjam Ronita said that she is happy in getting chance to learn Manipuri dance and folk-song and would continue further in future as well.
Workshop director H Okendro said that training on song and dance is given from 6 to 8 in the morning while Thang-Ta from 4 to 5.30 in the evening.
The workshop is being organised with the financial assistance from North Imphal Cultural Organisation (NICO) Advisor N Rajendro (Boy) who is also the president of ICHAM.
