One convicted for sexual assault

RK Memcha, Special Judge, POCSO Imphal West, convicted one Paul Kamei under IPC section 354 and POCSO Act section 10 in connection with the case of sexually assaulting a minor on September 19, 2017 .
The judgment order was announced today in an open Court after it was kept reserved following the final hearing on September 4 against the convict Paul Kamei (30) s/o Hunthu-mang Kamei of New Selam, Ward No 4, Tamenglong district, with September 24 fixed for the sentence hearing and announcement of the quantum of punishment.
Paul Kamei, who is presently lodged in Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, was produced in the Court for announcement of the judgment order today.
An FIR was registered against the convict after a complaint was filed by the victim to the OC of Tengnoupal PS claiming that while she was having lunch at his uncle's residence, the convict Paul Kamei came and entered the kitchen.
He then slapped her on her face and dragged her on the floor by holding her hands.
She claimed that the convict also shouted abusive words against her and even attempted to kill her with a sharp weapon.
Based on the complaint, a regular case was registered and police arrested Paul Kamei.
The IO of the case, after completion of the investigation, submitted charge sheet against the convict before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Tamenglong and CJM Tamenglong, after completing the required procedure, committed the case before the Special Court, POCSO, Imphal West.
On January 15 this year, Special Court, POCSO, Imphal West framed charges against the convict and during the trial, the Court recorded statements of nine prosecution witnesses.
No defense witnesses were produced by the convict during the trial.
During the argument hearing, the Court heard the submission of A Nilachandra, Special PP, and the defense counsel of the convict in length and finally convicted Paul Kamei.
The Court also fixed September 24 for the sentence hearing.
