Imphal, September 20 2019:
Stating that listing of Sanamahi faith in the other religion category has caused immense hardship while maintaining the record of Sanamahi faith followers, Yelhou Mee Thoupei (YMT) has urged the State Government and concerned authorities to do the needful for providing a religion code for Sanamahi faith before the commencement of next population census.
A press release issued by Hijam Dinesh, president, YMT, said that though religions such as Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist and Zoroastrian which have crores of followers have been considered minorities by the Indian Constitution, Sanamahi faith, which has just a few lakh of followers, has not received any Constitutional safeguard till date.
Seeking the attention of the Titular King Leishemba Sanajaoba, YMT also urged the Chief Minister, and MLAs to bring the issue to the Central Government to recognise Sanamahi faith as a minority religion.
