State officials attend 'Iconic Week'

Elected representatives and officials of Manipur took part in the ongoing 'Iconic Week' being organised by Ministry of Panchayati Raj as part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Maho-tav' celebration since April 11 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
The week-long conference resolved to implement nine out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals as assigned by the ministry and Manipur state has prepared to give special emphasis on three SD goals comprising gender equity, child friendly village and clean and green village.
During the conference, officials and experts of the ministry shared thoughts on effective implementation of SD goals of the ministry at the local level.
Altogether 10 government officials and Pradhans of Phayeng, Mayeng Lamjao, Waiton, Keinou and Top Dushera Gram Panchayats of Manipur took part in the conference.
Among the government officials, four lecturers of SIRD namely K Stalin, O Ranju, P Lenin and S Nilakanta attended the conference as co-conveners.
Panchayat Management unit project officer S Sima, Johnson, Sunil, Rahul and Uttam also attended the conference.
According to a state government official, who took part in the conference, a total of 17 SD goals are being targeted by the Government of India but only nine have been selected for early implementation.
As for Manipur state, three SD goals namely gender equity, child friendly village and clean and green village will be given special emphasis.
However, option will be given to GPs to choose any of the nine SD goals for early implementation though the three goals mentioned above will be given special emphasis, the official informed.
The official also informed that conduct of the 'Iconic Week' will help in successful implementation of SD goals in rural areas of the country and the conference discussed comprehensively about the role to be played by Panchayats in effective implementation of SD goals.
