4 including Thoubal SDPO hurt in mob attack

Imphal, August 30 2015 : Thoubal Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and his two escort personnel and a civilian woman were injured during a raid conducted to nab an alleged drug dealer in Lilong Tairel Makhong area of Thoubal district on Saturday night.

The incident occurred at around 9.15 pm in the house of Md Wahidur (35).The police team led by SDPO Thoubal and Lilong Police OC seized large quantity of SP capsules and bottles containing cough syrup and also arrested three persons along with live rounds during the operation.

Police sources said that the team of SDPO Shangkardev raided the house after receiving information that a large quantity of contraband drugs was hiding inside the house of Md Wahidur.

When the police team started recovering some SP capsules inside the house, the family members started shouting and then a mob attacked the police team on the spot.

SDPO Shangkardev and his escort personnel Akoijam Surendra and Hidang Gambhir were injured during the attack.

Md Wahidur's mother Abeda Begum (56) was also injured during the incident.

The mob also fired a few rounds from double barrel guns in the violent confrontation, said police sources.

After the incident, a police team led by Thoubal SP Radeshyam, Additional SP Modhunimai, Lilong Police Station OC Bangka rushed to the site and raided another two houses at Lilong Tairen Makhong at around 10.30 pm.

During the operation, a huge quantity of SP capsules was found which was partially burnt down.

SP capsule covers were also found inside a bamboo grove in the backyards of the two houses, police sources said.

The police team later arrested Md Baharuddin Salam (25) s/o Md Abdul Samad and Md Mustab Khan (28) s/o Md Rahimuddin, both from Lilong Tairen Makhong.

A total of 22 bottles of 100 ml cough syrup and a number of empty bottles and 18 live rounds of ammunition were seized from their possession during the operation.

Meanwhile, on Sunday morning police arrested Md Jasub Ali (25) s/o Md Alimuddin of Lilong Khunnou who had managed to escape from the clutches of the police team during the last night operation at Lilong Tairel Makhong.
