Imphal, August 30 2015 :
Villagers along with members of Haipou Jadonang Memorial Trust observed the 84th death anni-versary of Jadonang at Pui- luanh village, Tamenglong district, the birthplace and also the final resting place of Haipou Jadonang with traditional fervour yesterday.
Puiluanh village, the birthplace of the late freedom fighter is located about 140 kms away from Imphal along Imphal-Jiribam National Highway under Nungba subdivision of Tamenglong district.
Villagers trekked three kilometres uphill from the village to offer traditional holy wine to the departed soul at the place where the mortal remains of Jadonang were laid to rest in 1931 .
Villagers also observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed freedom fighter of the State who stood up against the mighty British empire.
The main function was held at the multipurpose hall of the village with village chairman Kakaodai Gangmei as the chief guest and RK Athuan as the guest of honour.
Folk dance was also presented at the death anniver- sary observance, which was also attended by villagers from neighbouring areas.
Former chairman of Jadonang Memorial Trust, Pounamgai Kamei recalled the noble deeds of Jadonang and an account on his death at the hands of the British on Aug 29, 1931.He added that everyone must remember Jadonang as the freedom fighter who could not withstand oppression.
Expressing disappointment that none of the Government agencies or NGOs of the State have come forward to help the native village of the great freedom fighter, Pounamgai said that such attitudes is very unfortunate.
He said that the authorities concerned should do whatever is needed for the welfare of the native village of Haipou Jadonang.
Meanwhile, RK Athuan urged the authority concerned to improve the approach road to the grave of Jadonang, which is in a pathetic condition.
Ironically, Puiluanh village, the birthplace and also the final resting place of the freedom fighter has been reeling under darkness as power supply was completely cut-off for the last two months.
