Imphal, August 30 2015 :
A public meeting organised by the National Sports University Construction Demand Committee (NSUCDC) has demanded the State Government to convene an emergency Assembly Session by September 10 next to finalise Koutruk as the site for setting up of the proposed sports varsity.
The public meeting was held at Koutruk Senjam Khunou Ibudhou Koubru Lampak in Imphal West on Sunday.
Organisations and residents of the area have already offered Koutruk for the National Sports University to the Manipur Government.
The meet welcomed the Centre's offer to construct the prestigious varsity in the interest of the people of Manipur, but it urged both the Central and State Government not to take up the project in arable land area.
The speakers at the meet maintained that the 1000 acres of land, offered by Koutruk Senjam Khunou, Senjam Chirang and Haraothel villages, is the best site for the purpose.
The meeting decided to impress upon both the Centre and State Governments to concede to the demand.
The public meet also decided to urge the Manipur Government to call an emergency Assembly Session by September 10 next to finalise the proposal.
NSUCDC president Salam Nabachandra, former minister O Joy, social worker Nandalal Angomcha and several elders attended the meet as presidium members.
