41 DESAM volunteers pulled up

Altoge-ther, 41 volunteers of Demo- cratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) are cur-rently lodged in jail and different juvenile observation homes for staging indefinite hunger strike in pursuit of the popular demand for implementation of ILPS in the State.
According to information collected from DESAM head office, all the volunteers were arrested from the agitation venues of DESAM head office, Keishampat and Thoubal Wangmataba Devi Mandop.
30 students were pulled up from Keishampat abd the remaining 11 from Thoubal Wangmataba.
Of the 41 students, 10 are girls including five juveniles while 31 are boys including 13 juveniles.
The number of male students who are lodged in Cen- tral jail, Sajiwa is 18 and the number of female students who are lodged in Central jail, Imphal is five.
Nine juvenile boys, who were picked up from Kei-shampat, are lodged in Juvenile Observation Home, Takyelpat and juvenile girls in Juvenile Observation Home, Langthabal.
On the other hand, six juveniles who were pulled up from Thoubal Wangmataba Devi Mandop are kept in observation homes of the district.
It may be mentioned that DESAM launched its indefinite hunger strike in front of DESAM head office, Keishampat on August 18 .
The stir at Thoubal Wangmataba began on August 19 .
Presently, 10 students are continuing at Keishampat and six at Thoubal.
The six students, who are staging the stir at Thoubal have been identified as Thokchom Radharani Devi (12) d/o Th Tombi of Khongjom Mamang Leikai, Ningombam Sanathoi (14) d/o N Bijoy of Sapam Mayai Leikai, Laishram Joy Ratana Chanu (17) d/o L Premchand of Thoubal Kiyam Mayai Leikai, Mayengbam Malemnganba (14) s/o M Robin of Langathel Thingen Leikai, Laishram Rabikanta (14) s/o L Kuber of Sangaikhong Sabal Leikai, Nepram Anand (14) s/o N Jugeshor of Langathel Thingen Leikai.
They began their hunger strike this morning after the three students, who were staging the stir, were pulled by police in the intervening night of August 29 and 30 .
On the other hand, Sagolsem Tembi (65) Oinam Manileima (65) Nongthombam Dina (52), Maimom Ashish (21), Suraj Sougaijam (22), Thiophil Maibam (21) and Bikram Wangkheirakpam (22) are continuing relay hunger strike at Thangmeiband.
Meanwhile, 13 vendors of Ima Keithel have begun their 13-hour hunger strike at Khwairamband bazar temporary market shed from 4 pm today.
They will continue their stir till 5 am tomorrow.
