Disability assessment camp held at Wangoi

In connection with the Chief Ministergi Shotharabasingi Tengbang (CMST) scheme to be inaugurated on December 3, a disability assessment camp was organised jointly by District Social Welfare Officer, Imphal West and CMO Imphal West at Wangoi Higher Secondary School today.
The scheme intends to create an enabling mechanism to economically empower the persons with disability by providing loan with subsidy to take up economically viable employment opportunities.
Speaking to media persons, Wangoi MLA Oinam Lukhoi who inspected the conduct of the camp said that the objective of the scheme is to provide care and assistance to Persons with Disabilities and Aged Persons sheltered in Old Aged Homes/Ashrams in the State.
He said that persons with disabilities encounter many disadvantages in the society and they are often subject to stigma and discrimination.
No one like to become disabled.
People should treat them like any other normal person, he added.
The MLA said that the State Government would do whatever it can for the welfare of persons with disabilities.
District Social Welfare Officer, Imphal West, Arambam Kameshore; CMO Imphal West, Dr H Kulla and representatives of Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation were present at the camp.
