Tangkhul CSO writes to AGM, SBI for adequate facilities before Christmas

The Tangkhul Civil societies organization, comprised of TNL and four zonal chairmen of Ukhrul, wrote a formal complaint to the AGM, SBI Imphal, seeking immediate intervention to ease the banking problem of SBI customers in Ukhrul.
The CSO, taking serious notes of frequent cash shortage and banking inconvenience at SBI Somsai branch, urged to shift the bank at the Mini secretariat office complex before December 10 and further demanded sufficient cash to satisfy the customers demand ahead of Christmas festival.
The Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul has already vacated four rooms for accommodation of SBI bank at Mini secretariat office complex on second week of November considering the public grievances on banking difficulties at Somsai.
According to reliable source, SBI Ukhrul is a Scale III bank branch having Rs 40 crore cash retention capacity but the cash available at the bank could never meet the requirements of the customers for payment in time.
When asked, the branch manager elaborated on the practical difficulties of the bank and said that although remittance arrived on November 1, the same amount was shared by UBI, and only Rs 15 crore was allotted for SBI.
According to his statement, SBI requires at least one crore for daily payment to satisfy customers including cash filling of ATM booths, that is why frequent cash out occur at ATMs.
He said that in order to meet the demand of the customers and to manage payment evenly cash withdrawal were made limited, frequently.
According to him over 18000 customers are linked with the bank since its inception at Somsai on 2011 but only a few deposit cash.
The geographical location also makes it impossible to airlift the cash remittance sufficiently and is regularly shared by two districts Tamenglong and Ukhrul.
While the town folks expressed strong disappointment saying that cash exchange with their swipe card was charged 2-3 percent due to cash shortage at the bank.
CSO leader D Chamroy from Northen Tangkhul villages Association warned the SBI authority that the bank would be held responsible if any case of unwanted incident occurs.
