Miscreants burn ripe paddy field, paddy stacks

In a bizarre incident, a ripe paddy field of around 500-600 tin, belonging to a poor farmer was set ablaze by some unknown miscreants at Saikul Hill Town.
Jacob Hmangte, a poor farmer of Saikul Hill Town bump ed into the hardest moment when on November 23 morning, he found his ripe paddy completely brunt to ashes.
The efforts and struggles for a complete one year disappeared just in a single moment which shattered his hope and spirit.
Jacob Hmangte (41), cultivated a paddy field of around one Pari harvesting 500-600 tin of paddy annually on lend system.
He has four daughters and his wife Anei Hmangte helped him in the cultivation of paddy.
The couple has no source of income and solely depends on the paddy cultivation while the -annual harvest is their only livelihood.
Extremely dejected, Jacob Hmangte while speaking to media persons today at his paddy field located around 5 kms away from the Saikul Sub Divisional HQs, said that he had spent a huge amount of money and man power, apart from other miscellaneous grievances throughout the year while cultivating the paddy.
However, despite all the suffering, the family are always hopeful of a bountiful harvest.
"I had completely lost my consciousness and Saijang women who happened to come across at the moment poured water upon me and I regained my consciousness", he asserted.
Condemning the incident, the poor farmer wishes the miscreants who committed such heinous crime to be punished according to the law and appealed the department Saikul Gamkai and CSOs.
Saikul including KSO Saikul, Block visited the paddy field and consoled him to bear the unfortunate incident.
In another similar incident, two stacks of paddy field, which were kept for drying in, the sun, was set fire by a miscreant yesterday.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 10:30 am today at Loktak Project-Shantipur Lam Lampat Loukol, under Ningthoukhong Municipal.

Some people who were harvesting crops nearby noticed the paddy burning and rushed to the spot to contain the fire.
Meanwhile, M Roben Singh of Ningthoukhong ward no 11, was allegedly caught lighting up the field.
He was later detained by Bishnupur police for further investigation.
Owners of the stacks of paddy are Pukhrambam Khomei Devi of Shantipur.
