Power Dept collects Rs.5.6 lakh in two days, 46 arrested

Imphal, June 23 2012:
The state Electricity Department has collected Rs 5.6 lakh taxes from its consumers and arrested 46 defaulters in just two days of resuming its tax collection drive.
The Department resumed it tax collection drive on Friday and collected a tax amount of Rs 2 lakh and arrested 28 defaulters on the first day itself.
Today's Mass Revenue Drive was conducted in areas under Imphal Electrical Division I, II, III, Imphal Maitenance Division (IMD), Thoubal Division and Bishnupur Division.
Connections of 54 defaulter consumers and non consumers were cut off in today's drive while 18 defaulters who were found reconnecting their lines were arrested.
The arrested defaulters will be produced before the court tomorrow, according to sources from the department.
The source further informed that the 28 defaulters who were arrested in Friday's drive have been awarded befitting punishment under the law of the state.
The 18 defaulters arrested today will also get the same punishment for defying the law.
