Minister of Education & Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Moirangthem Okendro today went for an inspection tour of various educational institutions and offices in Chandel district.
The Minister laid the foundation stone for construction of a science laboratory at United College Chandel at Lambung and inaugurated a newly constructed hall of the college.
Six staffs of ZEO office, Chandel who were found absent from their duty were served explanation call and the officials concerned were directed to make the notice available to them.
Accompanied by Minster Morung Mokunga; MLA Nunglung Victor; ex-MLA BD Behring; MLA Alexander Pao, Chandel DC, Chittaranjan and officials of Education and CAF & PD department, Minister M Okendro started off his inspection with a visit to South East Manipur College located at Komlathabi.
From there, he went to inspect the progress of the construction work on a godown of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution at Chandel.
Disappointed at the slow progress and sloppy manner of executing the work, the Minister suggested that it would be better to refund the incurred amount to the present contractor and replace him by a new one.

The Minister also went for scouting a suitable site for construction of an FCI godown for Chandel district.
During the inspection at the Office of ZEO, Chandel, the Minister was surprised to see its pathetic condition with all the files and documents placed on the floor.
While flipping through the attendance register, the Minister found a number of staffs absent from duty.
When enquired about their absence, the ZEO imprudently replied that they were not informed of the Minister's visit, to which the Minister Okendro mockingly said that he would definitely inform about his surprise visit next time.
The Minister directed accompanying officials concerned of the Education Department to make necessary arrangement for serving explanation call to one UDC, three Grade Fours, one Clerk and one DI for being absent from duty.
Later, the Minister went to inspect the condition of Maha Union Higher Secondary School, where 1160 students are reportedly studying at present.
The Minister, however, came across that the class room of Class XII in its worst condition with bamboo mats serving as walls.
The Minister assured that a new concrete wall would be constructed and the strength of teaching staffs in the school would be increased to meet the requirement of students.
During the course of his inspection tour in Chandel district, the Minister also laid the foundation stone of a Science Laboratory of United College Chandel and inaugurated its newly constructed hall.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the newly constructed hall of the College, Minister M Okendro said that various development programmes have been taken up in the field of education statewide.
In tune with that, the Transfer Policy of School Education and Higher Education would be set up shortly.
Many suggestions for development of Education system in the state are being received through the Education Department's website and these suggestions would be looked into seriously.
Assuring that infrastructural developments would be taken care of in all the educational institutions in every district, the Minister informed that the required teachers would be appointed at the earliest.
All those coming to get enroll themselves in government schools would be given admission and necessary measures in this regard would be put in place, the Minister said, adding that lack of teachers in United College Chandel would also be looked into and the Minister concerned would be prevailed upon for construction of the approach road to the college.
