Vehicle lifters nabbed

As a part of the drive against the vehicle lifters in Imphal East District, the Imphal East District Police have been able to apprehend a number of vehicle lifters and recover stolen vehicles from their possession during the last few days.
Addressing media persons in this regard at the office of Imphal East SP, Porompat, Additional SP (Ops), M Rajen, said that during a search operation carried out under his supervision on June 20, one Bolero bearing registration number MN-01W/8874, which was found abandoned at Wangkheirakpam Leikai, Nongmeibung was recovered by a team of Imphal East Commandos.
During verification, it was revealed that the Bolero jeep belongs to Spastic Society of Manipur and it had been stolen by unknown miscreants in the wee hours of June 15.The vehicle has been handed over to Imphal Police Station, whose personnel are trying their best to identify and nab the culprits.
He further informed that on June 26 at around 8:30 am, on receiving specific information regarding a stolen vehicle being parked near a workshop at Porompat near Porompat Petrol Pump, a team of CDO, Imphal East under the supervision of Deputy SP (CDO), Imphal East conducted a search operation.
One Honda-Jazz IVTEC car bearing registration number MN-04A/6786 was found near 'Yaima Garage' run by Mutum Yauima of Keirao Khunou.
The driver of the car was later identified as one Md Imran Khan (30), s/o Md Shahabuddin of Kyamgai Mayai Leikai.
On spot verification, it was found out that the car was registered on February 15, 2011 and it had been purchased on March 18, 2011 from Bas Engg, Pvt Ltd.
The car was registered in the name of M/s Bestec India Pvt Ltd, plot number 124S, Sector 44, Gurgaun on April 22, 2011 at SDMI, North Haryana, under registration number HR26BJ/5341.This clearly indicated that the registration certificate found from the possession of Imran is a forged document and the vehicle is a stolen one.
Hence, Md Imran Khan was arrested along with the vehicle and handed over him to Porompat Police station, he added.
