Senapati district has the highest number of children getting benefits of the central scheme for assistance to civilians or victims of terrorist and, communal violence among the nine districts of the state.
The district has 842 children, who are beneficiaries of the scheme.
This was out of 1444 children in the state receiving benefits under the scheme which had been extended to the state in 1991.With 303 beneficiaries Chandel district secured the second highest number of beneficiaries.
The numbers of beneficiaries in the other districts were Churachandpur 156, Thoubal 110, Imphal west 129, Bishnupur 31 and Imphal east district 14. The scheme is implemented with financial assistance from the Union ministry of Home Affairs under the flagship programme, Project Assist, and executed by the National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH).
Financial assistance under this scheme is given to family member(s) in the event of death or permanent incapacitation in terrorist, communal or naxal violence.
Assistance would be given to the surviving spouse in case of death/ permanent incapacitation of the husband or the wife, as the case may be.
However, if both husband and wife die in same incident of violence, the family would be entitled to get assistance, in each case as per the guidelines of the scheme.
A team of NFCH officials led by Dr Lalitkumar reviewed the implementation of the scheme in the state during their three day visit in the state and took stock of the status of progress of the project.
