Imphal, September 18, 2010:
Officials of the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) today conducted a field survey at Charangching Khunou of Chandel district to examine the wind speed which is vital for the installation of a power generation station there.
The survey conducted today was a part of the ongoing survey works of the MANIREDA to install more wind power generation stations in places where wind energy is available.
The survey team is led by scientific officer (wind) of the agency, W Suraj.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Suraj said that in the context of the global emphasis being given to the generation of power from wind since fossil fuels are on the verge of exhaustion.
MANIREDA is viewing this source of power so that the power shortage experienced in the state could be minimized to some extent.
He believed that if people extended support, many wind power stations could be set up in the state informing that MANIREDA is conducting surveys across the state where wind is available in plenty.
He said that for assessing the wind speed, the team will submit a report recommending installation of a 50 meter tall tower to measure wind speed to the Union ministry of Renewable Energy within the 30th of this month.
The tower will measure the amount of wind and its speed over a period of two years and will examine the data.
The installation of a wind power generation at the place will depend on the assessment of the data collected during the two year period.
