Imphal West district police commandos claimed to have arrested five activists of the proscribed RPF/PLA including a self-styled Sergeant Major, who are accused of launching violent attacks against non-Manipuris.
Speaking to newspersons at the Commando Complex here today, Imphal West district's Additional SP (Ops) AK Jhaljit asserted that there is concrete evidence of the arrested persons' involvement in killing and causing injuries to non-locals at different places of the capital districts in the last few days.
Identifying the S/S Sgt Maj as one Nongmeikappam Nanao alias Naoba alias Shangkar (28) of Koirou Thongju Part II, Jhaljit said district police commandos apprehended the individual from Kakwa Naorem leikai at around 1 pm yesterday.
According to the police officer, Nanao was involved in the killing of a migrant labourer namely Mohon Shah (45) on August 24 at Wahengbam Leikai, shooting/injuring Sandip Sahu (16), a hotel attendant on September 9 evening at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak and launder namely Rajendra Rajak (40) on September 16 evening at Takhellambam Leikai.
Jhaljit also contended that Nanao carried out the attacks at the instruction of the RPF/PLA's S/S Maj Thounaojam Romen alias Romen Luwangcha alias Robin (42) s/o Jatra of Naoremthong Khullem Leikai.
Romen currently hiding somewhere along the indo-Myanmar border, is also the outfit's administrative/liaison officer, the ASP claimed while contending the RPF/PLA sympathisers namely Gurumayum Gunadhor Sharma alias Khamba (30) s/o (L) G Madhumangol along with one Abung - both from Saiton Salang Konjil but presently residents of Singjamei Sapam Leikai, carried out the attacks against the non-locals at the instruction of Nanao.
He also contended that nanao provided one 9 mm pistol and one M-20 pistol with seven rounds each along with a sky-blue Honda Activa scooter to Gunadhor and Abung to attack non-locals in Imphal areas at any suitable moment.
Informing that Gunadhor and Abung are yet to be arrested, Jhaljit maintained that Nanao utilised both in attacking the non-locals in compliance with Major Robin's instruction that local sympathisers or drug addicts be used for the purpose.
Vehicle, mobile phones as money necessary for executing acts of violence are provided to the local sympathisers by Major Robin, he maintained.
Based on thorough investigations, police commandos have apprehended four persons namely Soibam Rocket (40) of Singjamei Thongam Leikai, Naorem Sobhapati Devi alias Inao (40) w/o Bhume and Naorem Graphy Chanu alias Dede (21) d/o Bhume of Kakwa Naorem Leikai, and Naorem Rina Chanu alias ibeyaima (32) d/o Joy, also from Kakwa Naorem Leikai, said the ASP who described the four as sympathisers/harbourers of UG activists.
