Imphal, January 17 2013:
All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) served an ultimatum to state government for disclosing the identity of the people who involved in smuggling of Pseudoephedrine tablets worth around Rs 1.4 crore that was seized from Tulihal Airport, Imphal on 11th January within 15 days.
In a statement, Vice President of AMADA Y Sundari Leima said that Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Gaikhangam has showed his immaturity and irresponsibility towards social issues by maintaining that he was not aware about the abolition of Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Imphal West.
If a the person who holds the dual posts Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister is unable to know the magnitude of public issue and the pulse of the public then it would be right for him to step down gracefully.
It is a common knowledge to all the people that the large drug consignments that were seized from airport belong to some VIPs and not to a simple person.
Involvement of political leaders in the case is almost clear as media has started throwing some clues and rumours are doing the around among the masses.
So, instead of buying time by roping in the service of CBI or any other investigating agencies, it would be better to ask the SIU personnel who seized the drugs, Sundari said.
If the state government fails to make known the names of the names of the people involved in the smuggling of drugs within the stipulated period, AMADA would launch intense agitation of devastating impact and the Government should not blame AMADA for the consequences.
Sundari also appealed to all the sections of the society to support AMADA in this regard.
