Imphal, January 17 2013:
Appealing to the people to do away with the habit of blaming others for the mistakes we ourselves committed, MP Thangso Baite exclaimed that Meeteis settling in the valley are not in any way snatching away the share of tribals leaving in the hills.
Thangso Baite was responding to a query made by media persons on the occasion of Eastern Manipur Presbytery Youth Fellowship and Gospel Olympic opening Ceremony at Chingphai village in Ukhrul district today.
He acknowledged that till date, the post of Tribal Development Minister has always been held by tribals.
No Meetei has ever held the post.
Under such a condition, it would be wrong to blame the Meeteis settling in the valley of snatching away the shares of the tribals.
"We should not blame others for the faults we have committed", the MP added.
On the issue of molestation and assault of film actress Momoco by NSCN(IM) cadre Livingstone, MP Thangso Baite said that since Livingstone has committed crime, legal actions should be taken up against him.
"There is no hope for a peaceful settlement of the ongoing Indo-NSCN (IM) peace talk before the Nagaland State Legislative elections, since the election code of conduct has been already imposed" he said and added that the visit of a team of Congress from Nagaland to Manipur recently was to consult the State on how to revive Congress party in Nagaland once again.
Earlier, speaking as Chief Guest of the opening ceremony, MP Thangso Baite exhorted that it is the duty of the people of the State to see that no issues are raised over integration of Manipur.
Any attempt to create disturbance in the territorial integrity of the Manipur will create problems among the various ethnic groups who have been living peacefully for centuries.
He also stated that it is because of the dissatisfaction over the issue of devolution of power that the members of ADCs are agitating.
Since the process of devolution of power has been taken up anew in the State, these sorts of problems have crept up.
It will subside after some time.
The function was also attended by JN Baite, MDC Chandel; Ngamkholet Baite; Tongkei Baite, MDC Churachandpur and Letmang Touthang, MDC Ukhrul.
