Chandel, November 20 2014:
All Tribal Women Organization (ATWO) Chandel District extended its support to the Thadou Student's Association (TSA) in their protest against acquisition of 3000 acres of land for setting up a smart city near Moreh.
In a press statement signed by Lalam Mate, President of ATWO Chandel District, the organization expressed its support to the Thadou Student's Association (TSA) in their protest against acquisition of 3000 acres of tribal land for setting up of a smart city at Haolenphai near Moreh in Chandel District.
The statement further said that 'mere setting up of a smart city after acquiring large tract of tribal land will not bring any development for them'.
Rather, it will bring more misery for the people of the area as their livelihood will be deprived and it will also render many of them homeless in their own land.
Instead, the government should chalk out a plan to develop the existing villages and transform them into a Smart Villages, added the statement.
Further, the Women Organisation also maintained that they will extend full support to the Student's body in their future course of agitations to protect the tribal land.
