Loktak Water Bird Census 2018 motivational camp begins

In connection with the ongoing movement to safeguard and protect wildlife, native birds as well as migratory birds in the State, a two-day Loktak Water Bird Census 2018 motivation camp commenced at 2nd IB conference hall, Keibul Lamjao National park today.
The motivation camp was organised by Wildlife wing, Department of Forest in collaboration with Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN) Manipur and with assistance from different clubs namely Sangai Protection Forum, Pole Star Guardian Association, Toubul Youth Development Association, Unique Wildlife Protection Committee, Global Science Club, Kumam youth Club and Gandhi Memorial Club.
Chief Conservator of Forest IFS Wildlife Anurag Bajpai, Kumbi College Principal K Jugeshwor Singh and Deputy Chief Conservator of Forest Park and Sanctuary i/c E Nirmala attended the event as dignitaries.
In connection with the bird counting programme held on 20 January every year, 50 different places of Loktak have been selected to conduct the census including Tangjeng, reports our correspondent.
A total of 100 volunteers from various clubs and organisations will take part in the motivational camp prior to the official counting, where the resource persons will highlight important topics including identification of the birds, steps/ measures to protect the birds etc.
After the declaration of Loktak lake as a Ramsar site, Honorary Wildlife Warden K Jugeshwor stated that it is the responsibility of the people to protect and safeguard the native as well as migratory birds.
