Murder accused remanded

Following the murder of a 48 year old man in front of a hotel at Lamphel Super Market at about 4 am today, Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today remanded the main accused to 8 days police custody (March 13) .
The accused identified as Heisnam Premjit (48) s/o Ibomcha of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai was arrested soon after he allegedly shot dead Kabrabam Shyam alias Nanao (48) s/o (L) Kameshore of Uripok Kabrabam Leikai with his licensed gun in front of RK Rice Hotel, Lamphel Super Market, at around 4 am today.
Producing the accused before the Court, the IO of the case informed that police received information that at around 4 am today, one Heisnam Premjit had shot Kabrabam Shyam, with his licensed 0.32 pistol in front of RK Rice Hotel, Lamphel Supermarket.
Shyam was rushed to RIMS but the doctors on duty declared him brought dead.
Premjit was arrested and during preliminary interrogation, he admitted to the charges levelled against him.
The accused narrated that he came back from Keishampat at around 2.30 am and reached Lamphel Supermarket at around 2.40 am.
There, he bought some liquor from RK Rice Hotel and was drinking outside when the victim, Kabrabam Shyam, along with one Yumnam Nilachandra (56) s/o (L) Tondonbi of RIMS Gate, Kombirei Keithel approached the area at around 4 am.
The IO continued that as per the revelation of the accused, Yumnam Nilachadra joked to him (accused) saying that he was up so early to drink liquor.
Nilachandra and Kabrabam Shyam then came near him and was drinking a glass each when he suddenly drew his pistol and pointed it to Nilachandra.
However Nilachandra pushed his (accused) hand away and the gun instead went off at Shyam's face.
The IO submitted that police questioned Yumnam Nilachandra and the owner of RK Hotel, Longjam (O) Inaobi Devi w/o Devan of Nambol Ishok (presently staying at Sanakeithel) and they also admitted that Premjit fired his pistol at Shyam and even though the victim was evacuated to RIMS casualty by Yumnam Nilachandra in an autorichshaw, it was all in vain.
During further course of the investigation, police inspected the incident site and they also visited Premjit's house and seized the clothes worn by him at the time of the incident and the pistol used in the crime.
After going through the case records and hearing the submission of the IO, the Court remanded Premjit to police custody till March 13 .
