Manipuri Language Day observed

Imphal, August 20 2011:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) observed today the 20th Manipur Language day at its Headquarter with Prof.Nahakpam Aruna of Manipuri Department, Manipur University as the chief guest of the function.
Speaking at the function Prof.Aruna stated the survival of a community is related to the survival of language.
We all should work together for the development of Manipuri language she added.
Prof.Aruna expressed concerned over the UNESCO report Manipuri language as a dying language and asked from which source the UNESCO published the report.
Yumnam Nabachandra Vice-President of UCM who graced the function as one of special guest stressed the need to work together for the development of Manipuri Language .We should also encourage using of Manipuri language by small children in their day to day life Nabachandra added.
Sahitya Academy awardee Saratchanda Thiyam said the UNESCO report is a warning and urged all to work for the all round development of the language.
Deepanjit Ningthoujam, General Secretary AMSU also the stressed the need to introduce Manipuri language in Higher Education sector.
The Manipuri Language Development Society also observed the day at Ningomthongjao Mela ground with President MS Ningomba .
The Patrotic Writers' Forum also observed the day at Manipur Press Club with Prof.Jodha Chandra Sanasam as Chief Guest.
As a part of the observation the annual awards to the short story writers also presented.
Awards to the writers based on patriotic namely Pacha Meetei Literary Award 2011 to Aheibam Manilal,Khathing Tangkhul Literary award 2011 to Laishram Dhananjoy, Dr Arambam Saroj Nalini Literary Award 2011 to Dr Laishram Imoba also presented.
The award carries cash Rs 2000 and a shawl.
