7 hunger strikers admitted to hospital

Imphal, August 20 2011:
Even as the fast unto death stir launched by twelve women in Kangpokpi, demanding declaration of Sadar Hills district, entered its fifth day today, seven strikers were admitted to a local hospital under critical conditions.
According to medical reports, the seven hospitalized strikers have been fighting bouts of gastritis, hypertension, viral fever and BP in varying degrees because of continuous fast for the past five days.
They were admitted today to CHC hospital in Kangpokpi after a medical check up on the twelve strikers by Dr Pushpa Rai found seven of them to be in critical conditions requiring immediate medical attention.
They were taken in by the police without their consent, according a local source.
The hospitalized strikers have been identified as Chonghat Misao (52), Kimnei Chongloi (48), Neikhoneng Haokip (58), Lamkim Chongloi (60), Lamneiting Dimgel (38), Neikho Dimgel (65) and Phalneiting Sitlhou (53) .
The women who were hospitalized today began their fast unto death stir on the evening of Aug 15.They are extending their support to the ongoing general strike launched by SHDDC starting midnight July 31 .
