Auto meter box in the offing

In order to check unauthorised consumption of power, auto meter boxes would be installed together with laying underground power cables in Imphal city, said Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing at the Renewable Energy Day observance at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound today.
The function organised by the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) was attended by Manireda Chairman and Power Minister Phungzathang, Commissioner (IFCD) H Imocha and Health Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
As a part of observing the Renewable Energy Day, a motor-cycle carrying the message 'Save Energy' was flagged off from Palace Compound by Manireda Director L Manglem.
The motorcycle rally carried placards which read as 'Use exhaustible energy judiciously', 'Save indispensable energy' etc.
The rally passed through Khurai Lamlong, Dingko Road, Thangmeiband, Sana Keithel, RIMS Road, Naoremthong, Tera, Khagempalli, Singjamei, Kongba and Wangkhei before winding up at Palace Compound.
Later, the chief guest distributed solar lighting systems to around 100 students who scored highest marks in the HSLC exam and HSE conducted by BSEM and COHSEM respectively.
Highlighting the importance of energy in the modern days, Phunzathang exhorted the public to use electric power judiciously rather than wasting power recklessly.
Stating unauthorised consumption of electric power has been causing serious inconveniences to the public, the Power Minister reminded that several measures were taken up by the Govt to check unauthorised connection even to the extent of imprisonment.
Still then, there has been not abatement in the practice of unauthorised connection.
Under such circumstances, the department has decided to lay power cables underground and also to install auto meter boxes very soon in Imphal area on trial basis, stated Phungzathang Tonsing.
Health Minister Jayantakumar highlighted to need to take up more numbers of solar energy projects in the State.
