Imphal, March 03 2017:
Saying that democratic movement in the State seems to have got no place as many democratic protests including the historic 16 years long fast staged by Irom Sharmila went unheard, several frontal organisations including IPSA, Kanglamei, CLK, KIL and KSA asserted that there is no point in casting vote by electorates in elections if such protests were not paid heed in the democratic country.
In a joint press release, the organisations called upon the people to participate in the 11th State Legislative Assembly election with certain motives that would benefit the State as a whole not for mere reasons.
It pointed out that vast campaign of launched by candidates of different political parties in connection with the coming election was not based on collective welfare and development of the State.
Political parties made big promises to enactment of a law to monitor incessant influx of migarnts into the State and scrapping the draconian Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), 1958 at the time of election but the assurances seem to fade away after the election, the organisations said.
