Imphal, March 03 2017:
Manipur State Medical Plant Board and Directorate of Ayush, Lamphelpat organised a media sensitization programme regarding medical plants at Directorate of Ayush conference hall, today.
Director of Ayush, Dr K Lokendro Singh, Dr L Ashok Sharma (Additional Director, MC, Directorate of Ayush) and Dr PK Singh (Professor, Department of Life Sciences, MU) took part in the event as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, Dr K Lokendro said that the programme was organised to make the people aware of all the medicinal plants found abundantly in the State.
Pointing out the role of media in spreading awareness, he said, "The interaction programme has been organised to teach the people about the various kinds of medicinal plants growing in the State, their uses and properties, which plants are being endangered etc".
Dr PK Singh said, "A few specimens growing in a vase inside a house or growing in a garden does not mean that a particular plant is thriving in that region.
And many of the medicinal plants from our State are slowly dying due to negligence, and ignorance and with the changing times.
We have to do our part to save these useful plants from disappearing completely" .
According to him, more than 1000 plants out of a total 1700 medicinal plants are used extensively in medicines.
"Let us try to generate income by utilising at least 100 medicinal plants", he added.
